Renault is preparing to relaunch its popular SUV, the Duster, in the Indian
market. Recently, the new-generation 7-seater Duster was spotted testing on the
roads of Tamil Nadu. The company may launch it in India under the name Bigster
or Boreal.
This is the first time the 7-seater SUV has been seen testing in India,
increasing the likelihood of its launch shortly. This move by
Renault is a significant step toward strengthening its position in the Indian
car market. Let’s take a look at what the new Duster might offer.
Design and Specifications
The test mule was heavily camouflaged, but some key design elements were visible. The Bigster's design is inspired by the new-gen 5-seater
Duster and is based on the Dacia Bigster Concept. It features Y-shaped
LED headlamps, a sleek grille, and strong
wheel arches, which give it a bold and appealing look.
On the side profile, large rear doors and an extended wheelbase were
visible, suggesting additional space for the third-row seats. The Bigster
measures around 4.6 meters in length, which is 300mm
longer than the 5-seater Duster. In addition, elements like 18-inch
alloy wheels, roof rails, and a rear spoiler
contribute to its premium SUV feel.
Interior and
Technology
The interior of the Bigster is expected to be similar to the
5-seater Dusterbut with the inclusion of some additional premium features. It may come
equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch
digital driver display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic
climate control, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of safety, the SUV is likely to offer ADAS features, a 360-degree
camera, and six airbags as standard.
Powertrain and
Performance
The Bigster’s powertrain options are expected to be borrowed from the
5-seater Duster. These include a 1.6-litre petrol-hybrid and a 1.2-litre
turbo-petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system. In India, the
hybrid variants are likely to be given special focus.
This SUV will be offered with both 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrain options, and
is expected to feature multiple terrain modes such as Auto, Snow,
Mud/Sand, Off-Road, and Eco. With the hybrid engine, it
could deliver a mileage of up to 27 kmpl.
