The first half of FY 2025-26 has been quite promising for the Indian automobile industry. On one hand, Maruti Suzuki retained its title as the country’s number one carmaker. On the other hand, Mahindra saw impressive sales growth, overtaking Tata Motors and Hyundai to become the second-highest-selling car company in India. Let’s take a look at the Top 10 Car Brands in the first half of this fiscal year.

1. Maruti Suzuki

At the top of the list is Maruti Suzuki. Over the past six months, the company sold a total of 878,705 vehicles. Compared to the 898,905 units sold during the same period last year (H1 FY 2024-25), this reflects a 2% year-on-year decline in sales.

2. Mahindra

Mahindra claimed the second spot in terms of car sales. During the first half of FY 2025-26, the homegrown carmaker sold a total of 301,194 units. This marks a remarkable 20% year-on-year growth compared to the 250,348 units sold in the same period of the previous fiscal.

3. Hyundai

Hyundai ranked third in the sales chart. In the past six months, the company sold 285,809 units, which is an 8% decline compared to the 309,772 units sold during the same period last year.

4. Tata Motors

Tata Motors stood in the fourth position. The company also witnessed a slight dip in sales. In the first half of FY 2025-26, Tata sold 269,968 units, which is 8% less than the 293,122 units sold in the first half of FY 2024-25.

Toyota retained its position in the list of the top 5 OEMs. In this half-year period, Toyota sold a total of 161,531 units. This figure represents a 15% year-on-year growth compared to the 140,027 units sold in the first half of FY 2024-25.

Besides the top 5 car manufacturers, during the first half of FY 2025-26, Kia sold 142,139 units, Skoda sold 36,194 units, Honda sold 32,096 units, MG sold 31,602 units, Volkswagen sold 18,780 units, Renault sold 16,031 units, Nissan sold 11,723 units, Citroen sold 2,427 units, and Jeep sold just 1,534 units.
