Mahindra Thar Roxx vs Mahindra Thar

Mahindra Thar Rox, the five-door variant of the Thar, is set to be launched on August 15. The Indian automaker has started releasing teasers of this new SUV, highlighting its exterior design. Let's explore the key differences that set the Thar Rox apart from the current Mahindra Thar.

Design Comparison

One of the most notable changes in the Mahindra Thar Rox is its newly designed grille. Mahindra has replaced the smaller six-slat grille of the three-door model with a bold design for the Thar Rox. This new grille also includes a front camera, potentially part of a 360-degree setup.

The Thar Rox will feature new LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRLs wrapped around them, replacing the halogen headlights found in the current three-door Thar.

Additionally, it will have 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels instead of the monotone wheels of the three-door version. The wheel arches have also been made square, differentiating them from the round wheels of the standard model.

Another significant difference is in its wheelbase (the distance between the wheels). The Thar Rox has wheels that are set further apart, allowing for additional doors and more legroom for an extra seat row. This distinguishes it from the standard model.

Although Mahindra has not yet revealed the interior of this longer-wheelbase SUV, recent spy shots have shown a beige-colored cabin theme.

Interior and Safety Features

Expected features in the Mahindra Thar Rox include a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, and a push start/stop button.

The Thar Rox is also anticipated to have more safety features than the current Thar model, including standard six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS).

Engine Options

The upcoming 5-door Mahindra Thar Rox will likely use the same petrol and diesel engines available in the standard Thar, but possibly with improved output.

It will be available with a 2-liter turbo-petrol engine and a 2.2-liter diesel engine. Both engines will come with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. Both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and four-wheel-drive (4WD) configurations are expected to be offered.

The rear profile has not been fully teased yet; however, glimpses suggest it will feature LED tail lights with a reversed 'C' motif. The square wheel arches set it apart from the rounded housings of the three-door model.

The Mahindra Thar Rox is expected to start at around ₹15 lakh (ex-showroom). It aims to be a significant alternative to vehicles like the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and directly compete with models such as the five-door Force Gurkha.
