Sales Decline for Skoda and Volkswagen in July 2024, See the Figures...

In July 2024, car sales were generally low, with most automakers experiencing a year-over-year (YoY) decline. Only Mahindra, Toyota, and Kia managed to avoid this trend. However, with the upcoming festive season starting with Onam in Kerala, an increase in showroom visitors and sales is expected.

Skoda Sales Figures

There was a significant decline in Skoda's sales figures in July 2024. The company sold 2,103 units, which is 50% less than the 4,207 units sold in July 2023.

Month-over-month (MoM) sales also saw an 18% decline, down from 2,566 units in June 2024. It is worth noting that Skoda is testing a new sub-4-meter SUV set to launch in early 2025, with its official name likely to be announced in August.

In July 2024, the Kushaq was Skoda's best-selling model, but it still experienced a decline. It sold 1,070 units, which is 55% less than the 2,394 units sold in July 2023 and an 11% monthly decrease from June's 1,198 units.

"Slavia's sales were also low, with only 793 units sold, representing a 52% decline year-over-year and a 36% decline month-over-month. Given these figures, it's clear that Skoda's sales were quite low last month, although an increase is expected during the festive season.

Volkswagen Sales Performance

Volkswagen's overall sales performance in July was also lackluster. The company sold a total of 3,407 units last month, which is an 11% decrease from the 3,814 units sold the previous year. However, there was a slight 5% increase month-over-month compared to June's 3,260 units.

Despite the overall decline, the Taigun remained Volkswagen's best-selling car. Last month, it sold 1,584 units, which is an 18% year-over-year decline from the 1,908 units sold the previous year, but it showed a modest 3% month-over-month increase. On the other hand, Virtus showed growth both year-over-year and month-over-month with 1,766 units sold. The Volkswagen Tiguan had its worst month, with only 77 units sold, reflecting a decline of over 54% compared to the previous year, leading to a significant decrease in its market share within the Skoda-Volkswagen lineup

The Skoda Superb recorded zero sales during this period, indicating further challenges for these brands amid competitive market conditions. Combined Sales Figures for Skoda and VW: There was a notable decline in the combined sales of Skoda and Volkswagen vehicles in India in July. Total sales fell by over 31%, with only 5,510 units sold compared to more than 8,000 units last year, showing a drop of over 2,500 units. Last month, the Virtus was the only Volkswagen model to register positive growth, with its sales slightly higher than the previous year, at around 1,766 units. In contrast, the Taigun saw a decline of about 18% compared to last year. Unlike other models, the Skoda Kodiaq experienced positive growth, with 240 units sold in July 2024, which is 51% more than the 159 units sold the previous year, showing significant improvement from just 137 units in June."
