India's leading automobile manufacturers have recently released their car sales figures for the month of August 2024. The data reveals which cars were most popular and purchased by Indians during the month of August. Maruti Suzuki continues to dominate the list, with 6 models among the top 10 cars.
Following this, the list includes cars from Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra. After Maruti Suzuki's 6 cars, Tata Motors has 2 cars, Hyundai Motor Company has 1 car, and Mahindra has 1 car on the list. Let’s take a look at the sales figures of the top 10 best-selling cars in India in August 2024.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza sales figures
This SUV topped the list in August 2024 with total sales of 19,190 units. Compared to 14,572 units sold in August 2023, Brezza saw a 32% year-on-year (YoY) growth. The price of the new Brezza SUV ranges between ₹8.34 lakh and ₹14.14 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga sales figures: In second place is the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga MPV, which exceeded expectations with significant growth in sales. A total of 18,580 units of the Ertiga MPV were sold in August 2024.
Compared to 12,315 units sold in August 2023, this shows a 51% year-on-year sales growth. This car is available for purchase at an ex-showroom price ranging from ₹8.69 lakh to ₹13.03 lakh.
Hyundai Creta sales figures
While the Hyundai Creta SUV was in first place in July 2024, it slipped to third place in August 2024. A total of 16,762 units of Creta were sold last month. Compared to 13,832 units sold during the same period in 2023, the year-on-year growth is 21%. The ex-showroom price of the Hyundai Creta SUV ranges between ₹11 lakh and ₹20.15 lakh.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR sales figures: In August 2024, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR hatchback secured fourth place with sales of 16,450 units. Compared to 15,578 units sold in August 2023, this represents a year-on-year growth of 6%. The ex-showroom price of the car ranges between ₹5.54 lakh and ₹7.32 lakh.
Tata Punch sales figures
In fifth place is the Tata Punch micro-SUV. It recorded sales of 15,643 units this August. Compared to 14,523 units sold in August 2023, this marks an 8% improvement. The petrol variant of this car is priced between ₹6.13 lakh and ₹10.20 lakh, while the electric variant is priced between ₹10.99 lakh and ₹15.49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Following this, the Mahindra Scorpio ranks sixth on the August 2024 sales list with 13,787 units sold, showing a 39% growth rate. The rest of the list includes Maruti Suzuki Swift (12,844 units), Maruti Suzuki Baleno (12,485 units), Maruti Suzuki Fronx (12,387 units), and Tata Nexon (12,289 units).
The August 2024 sales report shows that Maruti, which has traditionally dominated the hatchback segment, has now also become number one in the SUV segment. Maruti Suzuki Brezza has overtaken Tata Punch and Hyundai Creta to become the number one car.
