The demand for compact SUVs in the country is continuously increasing. However, only cars from Hyundai, Maruti, and Kia are leading in terms of sales in this segment. Last year, cars from these companies topped the list of the most sold compact SUVs in India.
SUVs are divided into various categories. The most prominent among them is the compact SUV. These SUVs have a length of more than 4 meters. In this category, the Hyundai Creta is the best-selling SUV in the Indian market.
Following that, there's the Maruti Vitara Brezza (Grand Vitara) and the Kia Seltos (Kia Seltos). People prefer to buy these compact SUVs. These cars come with impressive designs and smart features.
Sales in the fiscal year 2023-24: Sales of compact SUVs were quite good this fiscal year. In this segment, Hyundai has sold a total of 162,773 units of the Creta. In the previous fiscal year, a total of 13,564 Creta cars were sold per month.
In addition, in March 2024, 16,458 units of the Creta were sold, which is the highest compared to last year. After the Creta, Maruti Suzuki's Grand Vitara emerged as the second best-selling compact SUV in India in the fiscal year 2023-24.
The company recently introduced it with advanced features. Maruti achieved good sales through its marketing network. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 121,169 Grand Vitara cars last year. On average, 10,097 Grand Vitara cars were sold per month.
In January 2024, Maruti Suzuki sold 13,438 units of the Grand Vitara, which is the highest figure of last year. Maruti Suzuki managed to sell only 6,988 units of the Grand Vitara in December last year.
The Grand Vitara has been introduced with hybrid technology. After these two cars, the Kia Seltos is the third best-selling compact SUV. Like Hyundai Creta, Kia's SUV Seltos also sold 100,423 units last year.
These cars were sold at a rate of 8,369 units per month. There has been a significant improvement in the sales of this car in the last 6 months. Its waiting period is now more than three months.
Alongside these three models, compact SUVs like Toyota Harrier, Honda HR-V, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, and MG Astor are also available for sale in the Indian market. However, total sales did not exceed 50,000 units in the last fiscal year.
