Maruti Suzuki vehicles are popular not only in India but also abroad, leading the company to export cars worldwide. The latest news is that the new-generation Maruti Swift, manufactured in India and launched in the Indian market in May 2024, is set to be introduced in the African market, starting with South Africa. South Africa is a significant market for Maruti, serving as a hub for distributing vehicles to other African nations.
According to reports, Maruti Suzuki will export the new-generation Maruti Swift to South Africa with some modifications compared to the Indian version. Let's take a look at some key changes. Specifically, the fourth-generation Swift in South Africa is expected to feature a CVT gearbox option instead of the 5-speed AMT available in India. CVT gearboxes are known for their smoothness and fuel efficiency. They can maintain power and torque for longer durations compared to traditional gearboxes.
Users generally experience a smoother driving experience with a CVT gearbox compared to AMT. However, it is still unclear whether there will be any changes in power and torque output with the CVT gearbox. The Indian variant of the new Swift produces 81.58PS of power and 111.7Nm of torque. It offers a mileage of 24.8 km/l with the 5-speed manual gearbox and 25.75 km/l with the AMT gearbox.
Apart from the CVT gearbox, most of the features in the Swift being sent to South Africa are expected to be similar to those available in the Indian version. The exterior features include a chrome black grille, projector headlamps with DRLs, dual-tone alloy wheels, and C-shaped taillamps. Like the Swift sold in India, it will also offer a 9-inch infotainment screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, a semi-digital instrument cluster, wireless charger, and an Arkamys-tuned sound system. Additionally, for safety, it comes with 6 airbags.
