Mahindra sells
the Thar as its popular lifestyle SUV in the Indian market. Under this
nameplate, the company offers both the 3-door Mahindra Thar and the Mahindra Thar Roxx. Last month, demand for these off-road SUVs saw a significant
surge. Let’s take a look at their sales figures, pricing, and key
features.
Thar and Thar Roxx See Massive Demand
In June 2025,
demand for these lifestyle SUVs soared. A total of 9,542 units were sold
last month. Compared to 5,376 units sold in June 2024, this reflects a remarkable
77% year-on-year growth in sales.
Price and Variant Options
The Mahindra
Thar has an ex-showroom price starting from ₹11.50 lakh and goes up to
₹17.62 lakh. It is available in 7 variants.
On the other hand, the Thar Roxx, a more practical and family-friendly 5-door
model, is priced from ₹12.99 lakh to ₹23.39 lakh and comes in 22
variants.
Interior and Features
The Mahindra Thar comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cruise
control, and black fabric upholstery. Its cabin is designed with a
rugged and functional look.
In contrast,
the Thar Roxx offers more premium features, such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof,
ventilated seats, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Its
interior is based on the Scorpio-N chassis, giving it a more premium and
spacious appeal.
Engine and Performance Details
The Thar
is offered with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine producing 150 BHP and
320 Nm torque, and a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 130 BHP
and 300 Nm torque.
The Thar Roxx comes with a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo petrol
engine delivering between 160-174 BHP and 330-380 Nm torque, and a 2.2-liter
diesel engine offering between 150-172 BHP and 330-370 Nm torque.
Both models offer 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The
Thar Roxx’s diesel variant also comes with a 4x4 option, while the Thar
offers 4x4 in both petrol and diesel variants.
Mileage
The Thar
delivers a mileage of around 8-9 km/liter for petrol and 9-10
km/liter for diesel. The Thar Roxx offers better mileage with 12.4
km/liter for petrol and 15.2 km/liter for diesel (as per ARAI). In
real-world conditions, mileage may vary between 11-15 km/liter. Both
SUVs have a 57-liter fuel tank capacity.
Safety
The Thar is
equipped with 2 airbags, ABS, and rear parking sensors.
The Thar Roxx boasts more advanced safety features, including 6 airbags, Level
2 ADAS (Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist), 360-degree
camera, and Electronic Stability Control.
In Bharat NCAP safety ratings, the Thar Roxx earned a 5-star rating,
while the Thar received a 4-star rating.
