Upcoming CNG Cars in the Indian Market: From Nexon CNG to Swift CNG

Maruti Suzuki is likely to offer the Swift with a 3-cylinder Z12E engine as a CNG option. Meanwhile, Hyundai has filed a trademark for the Hy-CNG Duo technology in India. This could indicate the adoption of a twin-cylinder CNG system, which is currently available in Tata Motors' CNG cars. Tata Motors has confirmed that the Nexon iCNG will be launched by the end of this year.

Due to increasing environmental awareness and the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel, the demand for CNG cars has risen. From entry-level cars to large family MPVs, CNG fuel options are currently available. With the continuously growing demand for CNG cars in the Indian markets, automakers are preparing to introduce several new products. These include the Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG and the Tata Nexon i-CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Swift S-CNG

The Maruti Swift is likely to get a CNG option with a 3-cylinder Z12E engine. This petrol engine produces 80 BHP, but the power will be slightly lower in CNG mode. Maruti has not confirmed the launch date, but it is rumored that it could be launched during the festive season.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire S-CNG

Given the immense popularity of the Dzire CNG, it is very likely that Maruti will offer a CNG option for the new model. The familiar 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine is expected to be compatible with CNG. Along with design changes, its features will also be updated. This includes new taillights, a new rear, and potentially an updated boot design. The launch is expected to be around the festive season.

Hyundai Duo Cylinder CNG

Hyundai has filed a trademark for the "Hy-CNG Duo" technology in India. This could indicate the adoption of a twin-cylinder CNG system, which is currently available in Tata Motors' CNG cars.

Hyundai currently offers CNG options for the Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Exter. All these cars are powered by a 1.2-liter engine with a single CNG cylinder. The company might use the Hy-CNG Duo technology to introduce cars like the i20 and Venue with a twin-cylinder CNG system.

Tata Nexon iCNG

Tata Motors has confirmed that the Nexon iCNG will be launched by the end of this year. It could potentially be the first SUV in India to run on CNG with a turbocharged engine. With this additional feature, the Nexon's fuel options will expand to include petrol, diesel, electric, and CNG. The iCNG variant will be distinguished to differentiate it from other Nexon variants.
